Praveen Ganty

Dr. Praveen Ganty is a Staff Anesthesiologist at the Department of Anesthesia & Pain Management at Toronto General Hospital and a Lecturer at the University of Toronto. He has been at UHN since January of 2022. He trained in the United Kingdom in Anesthesiology. After completing his fellowship in Pain Management, he was working as a consultant in Anesthesiology and Pain Medicine from 2010 to 2016 in the United Kingdom, he was part of the internationally renowned Pain Management Program at the Walton Centre NHS trust in Liverpool, United Kingdom where he was working as a consultant before his move to Canada in 2016, and he was working at a community pain clinic until December of 2021.

Dr. Ganty is an Early career researcher with interests in developing novel therapeutic and interventional methods to treat chronic pain. He has varied research interests in pain, and his research projects include being a collaborator on the multi-center NERVES trial (Nerve root block V Surgery for acute sciatica), and the multi-center LIPS (Low dose Immunoglobulin for Complex Regional Pain Syndrome) trial. His research interests are in arthritis pain treatment, neuropathic pain, and in complex regional pain syndrome, pelvic pain, and fibromyalgia. He uses novel therapeutic agents such as CBD products to treat the pain related to osteoarthritis, and also is adept at performing interventional procedures to treat arthritis such as genicular nerve radiofrequency lesioning for knee arthritis. He is interested in the use of bone marrow aspirate stem cells, adipose-derived stem cells, and platelet rich plasma, as therapeutic modalities to treat musculoskeletal pain. He believes in weaning patients off opioids and using a combination of novel therapeutic agents and interventions to help patients achieve this goal.
